Maldives is the favourite honeymoon destination for 2020, according to Kuoni

The Maldives tops the list of favourite honeymoon destinations for 2020, closely followed by Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Bali and Thailand, according to a report from Kuoni.

The good news is that 82% of honeymoons booked were the assistance of a travel agent as they can direct on the latest luxury resorts, multi-centre itineraries and upgrade options.  Maldives is known as one of the favorite Indian Ocean holiday destinations of among of honeymooners all over the world      

Other destinations in the honeymoon bestsellers list include -

Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, USA and Italy.

Normal spend has gone up over the past three years with couples now investing an average of £7,695 on their dream trip, compared to around £6,000 in 2017.

The operator has seen the age of honeymooners rise over the past decade, with more couples in their mid to late thirties tying the knot. The company's honeymoon experts report that they are booking more couples in their 40s, 50s and 60s getting married for the second time.

It's not unusual now for honeymoon bookings to include children – there has been a steady rise in honeymoon bookings which include either infants, toddlers or teenage children as couples start their family first or get married for the second time.

Couples are gradually pushing the boat out on their honeymoon with romantic experiences, with some of the most requested being a barbecue on a deserted island in the Maldives, dining by a candlelit waterfall in Thailand, sharing a double bed in the sky with Qatar Airways QSuite and a hot air balloon flight over the Maasai Mara in Kenya.

Outdoor bathrooms, luxury tree-houses and spa treatments with a view are also frequently requested, according to Kuoni's honeymoon experts.
